I’m fed up about SPAM, and did a little something about it

This post is completely off topic. I’m getting fed up with email and telephone SPAM. I just want to point out a couple things I’ve done recently that have gotten rid of most of my current SPAM. First I get 10-20 spam emails a day on one account, my Gmail account. Here are my most recent ten:

Gmail is great at detecting these as SPAM, but there are occasional “spam” emails that are valid, so I have to check my spam mail. One thing in common among all of these is the address “6101 Long Prairie Rd, Ste 744 #511” So I added a filter in gmail that puts any mail containing “6101 Long Prairie Rd” into the trash, marked a read. Problem one solved!

For the telephone, I noticed that the autodialed junk calls are silent when you answer as they aren’t going to waste the time of their people waiting for an answer. After a few seconds there is a “clunk” sound when then connect. This clunk is a 100% accurate notification that it is a spam call, so I disconnect at that point. Yesterday I received 21 calls in three clumps each clump taking one minute. I double click to send to voicemail, which, of course, they never leave a message. But they call immediately back.

I couldn’t believe receiving so many in a row, so I did answer one, the sixth, and could not understand a word the fellow was saying at the other end. I stopped this by blocking unknown callers. The problem with this is that that will also block legitimate calls that have blocked their caller ID. In this case five calls did come in where he turned caller ID back on for some reason. The number 1 (876) 509-3408 belongs to dCloudsHost.com that apparently does VoIP hosting for businesses. There have been numerous businesses assigned to that number. The area code is for Jamaica and apparently there are major lottery scams coming from there.
